Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu 1/81

It’s been a long time since I posted. I’ve been traveling around and learning to let go of everything. I have become a student of the writings of the Tao Te Ching. It has made a profound impact in my life and I wanted to share it with others in hopes that it will help. The text itself is some of the oldest text in the known written world. Predating the Bible and Quran. They are 81 teachings on ways we can live a full life. What I enjoy most about the teachings is they are simply ways to live. There is no church nor any kind of saving by a supernatural being. Everything we will ever need is within us. The Tao is more described as an energy all around us. Energy that we can tap into if we so chose. There is no temples or churches you must go to seek salvation. Just follow the Tao and let go of everything else.

A little bit about myself before I get into the writings. Just like you, I am also a human being. Trying to live my life the best way I know how. I’m not an expert on this matter and would love your input and insights. This is also making no claims that this is the one path and all the others are not. If you follow one of the main religions and it helps you live a more fulfilling life. Then that is great and I hope you stay to your path. I have no intent in trying to take anyone off their path only to share in hopes it can help others.

Without further ado, I give you the first passage of what the Tao says followed my interpretation of it. I would suggest reading only the script first and deciding what it means to you before reading what I think it means for me.

  1. “The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao. The name that can be named is not the eternal name. The unnamable is the eternally real. Naming is the origin of all particular things. Free from desire you realize the mystery. Caught in desire you see only the manifestations. Yet mystery and manifestations arise from he same source. This source is called darkness. Darkness within darkness, the gateway to all understanding. “

The Tao is not the true name, for nothing that is eternal can truly be named. Anything that has a name is us trying to have an understanding of it. The Tao is beyond true understanding. We always have a name, but by giving it a name, we see only the manifestation ( what it is in our world).

Desire is what blinds us all to whats in front of us. Being able to move through life without desire is one who can move freely. When you’re caught in desire, you are possessed by only what is in front of you. Yet, both come from the same source. All come from darkness. The void that is the eternal. Only looking deep within darkness can we begin to see where the source of all life comes from.

Feel free to write your thoughts and insights. This is only meant to be source of helping others in their paths. I will post the next verse next week with my thoughts on it.
